However, there is a great difference: The speculative thinker finds his facts in the moral world at large, while the Christian discovers his facts in scripture and more particular the New Testament (Ps. 119:105; 2 Pet. 1:21; Luke 1:4; John 20:30-31). In theology, one may use historical inquiry, but a theological reading of some part of scripture may understand its meaning in light of its use in the history of Christianity, and not fixed by the conditions and intentions of the original authors.
